2 Playful February activities

Welcome to month of love

February, the month of love. Valentines Day — a romantic day to go out and have dinner in a full restaurant with all the other romantic couples, or the day to ‘pffft’ the vague memory of romance, or the day to eat your own body weight in chocolate ice cream (done it, don’t judge me)

Whatever your opinions on Valentines Day, and I have a strong few, there is something magical about celebrating a month where we focus on loving each other. Whether that be ourselves, our families, our work colleagues. Whatever.

If you haven’t heard me blab on about Oxytocin before - strap in. I’m a massive fan of this incredible molecule. Oxytocin - the love drug, is a powerful emollient that improves our immune system, makes us feel great, increases trust and connects us. It’s incredible. (If you want to learn more - read here)

But that’s not what you’re here for. You are here to play. SO:

Activity 1 - A love story of your own

There is nothing more powerful than finding love for yourself. This month, I’m challenging you to write a love letter. To yourself. More specifically: To a part of your body. Here’s mine:

Dear elbow,

You are so elusive. There is a beautiful mystery in knowing the only true way we can connect is through a mirror. You look: different. Unusual. A little wrinkly if I’m honest, but it gives you the air of wise old krone, bending and stretching for all of time.

But I love you. You give me flexibility. And width. You prop me up at unusual angles and if I hurt you… you let me know more than most of the other body parts.

You are relentless. Reliable. And one day I hope to lick you.

All my love,

Trudi

Activity 2 - The Office Love-in

This works like a Kris Kringle, but for Valentines Day. You put everyone’s name in a hat and you draw one out. This is your Valentines Office Love-in. The rules:

You have to do something nice for them on Valentines Day that is:

  1. Relevant to them

  2. Doesn’t cost any money

This is about a kind thought. What is the person like, and what would be nice to do for them. Some suggestions are:

  • Recipe

  • Playlist

  • Podcast recommendation

  • Compliment

  • Recollection of the first time you met them

  • A Ted Talk they should watch

See how creative you can get and how well you know your work colleague.

However you love the world around you this month - enjoy being playful in a loving way… whatever that means to you.
